Originally a Franciscan Friary, the Diocese of Nottingham is developing the property adjacent to Our Lady and St Edward Church in Thorneywood, Nottingham, into a House of Discernment.
The thinking behind this idea is that men who are interested in learning more about the priesthood would live and work alongside the Diocesan Vocation Directors, Fr Paul Newman and Fr Jonathan Cotton, to look at what it means to be a priest in today’s world and to discern whether God is calling them to this particular way of life.
Abbot Christopher Jamison has been elected as Abbot President by the English Benedictine Congregation in succession to Abbot Richard Yeo. Abbot Christopher was Abbot of Worth from 2002-2010 and since then has been Director of the National Office for Vocation.

On Tuesday 18th July, Hector Rick Fernandez was ordained to the diaconate. Here he is pictured on the right next to the vocations director for Brentwood, Fr Graham Smith. Hector studied at the Beda College in Rome and was ordained by Bishop Alan Williams in Dagenham.
