Day 34 – 3rd February: St Blaise

St Blaise is a Doctor of the Church and was Bishop of Sebastea. He is well known for being the Patron Saint of throats disorders; the story goes that he was on his way to jail, when a woman placed her son at his feet who was chocking on a fishbone. Blaise cured the child, however, Agricola the governor of Cappadocia and Lesser Armenia demanded Blaise to renounce his faith. He never did and was martyred.

Prayer: St Blaise

Almighty and ever-living God,

as we reflect on St Blaise,

we give thanks for his courage

for staying true to the faith,

until death.

We ask St Blaise to protect

all around us with throat problems,

that through him, God’s healing power

can be revealed.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen

St Blaise. Pray for us.
