100 Days of Prayer
Prayers Week 8
10th March
Saint Egwin (d. 717). Bishop. Feast Day 10th September.
Saint Egwin was the Bishop of Worcester and founded Evesham Abbey. The original Feast Day of St Egwin was the 30th December, although September the 10th was the day of the translation of his relics. One of St Egwin’s known stories was when he locked his feet in shackles and threw away the key into the Avon. This was due to his struggles with the local community and being asked to leave the diocese. He went on Pilgrimage to Rome where he brought a fish, which had the key inside. Upon showing this to the Pope he was proclaimed innocent and returned to his diocese.
Dear Lord, we give thanks for the life of St Egwin, the founder of Evesham Abbey, the passion he had and the work he carried out.
We make this prayer through Christ, your Son, our Lord.
Amen.
St Egwin… Pray for us.
11th March
Saint Winifred (7th Century) Welsh Virgin. Feast Day 3rd November.
St Winifred was a Welsh virgin of the 6th or 7th Century who lived near Holywell in Clwyd. She was beheaded by a prince after she refused advances from him and springs of water appeared where her head struck the ground. Apparently her uncle St Bueno brought her back to life and she lived out the rest of her life as a nun. Her remains were kept at Shrewsbury, although the spring at Holywell remains a site of pilgrimage to the present day.
Lord you have gathered us together today in your name.
We have brought alive through prayer the life of your beloved Virgin, St. Winifred, a woman of faith and love.
We ask St Winifred to intercede for us as we continue the journey of life.
We pray that she may send love into our hearts, that our lives be changed by the power of your spirit, to do good works here on earth.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen
St Winifred… Pray for us.

14th March
Today is the 4th Sunday of Lent, Laetare Sunday, it’s also a day of celebration for Mothers, know as Mothering Sunday. Our prayer today is dedicated to all mothers on this special day.
Dear Lord, we give thanks to all our mothers, for the care and love they show, and their generous hearts that open to us time and time again.
May we be inspired by each of them, and learn from them daily keeping them always close to our hearts.
We thank you Lord for this vocation of Motherhood And the beauty that it brings.
We ask Mary, the mother of all, to pray with us as we say: Hail Mary, full of grace the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
